Why a chain can beat a one-off: coffee shops and homeowners' associations

I once came up with an explanation of why Liga ZhKKH can be better than a homeowners' association (TSZh). Using coffee shops as an example. Now I've written it down.

Somewhere in Milan, I imagine, there is an amazing coffee shop that makes the best coffee in the world. It is one of a kind, and you can't taste coffee like that anywhere else.

There is also the coffee shop near your home that makes lousy coffee. Also one of a kind.

And there is Starbucks, where you can get good coffee, even if not as good as in that Milan coffee shop. But you get it anywhere, at any time, and with predictably high quality. And you don't depend on whether a particular barista moves to another country.

And Starbucks coffee will certainly be 100 times better than the coffee at that place near your home.
